'this affects all of us man, these are our basic freedoms'

Lanterns and Lances : Review

this book is actually to old an prolific to really give it a review.  I think this is Thurber’s last work before he died (citation needed), and he just kind of meanders his way through the english language letter by letter. Plays with words from a-z like an aggravated albatross aggressively accosted a agregate architechterul apostle.  That stuff is just for kicks, he ’s a lot better at it than me

He then  goes into the same problems and complaints about the mainstream media (hes talking about when radio was popular), that I have, only in a time far away.  Thurber has been referred to having ‘a good handle on the whole man / woman relationship’ (again citation needed), and goes into that very to well to the point that may offend some of the brighter female readers.

All of the word play is done cleverly and one thing he can’t stress  enough is the proper use of english, grammar, pronunciation  and the lackthereof in today’s (yesterdays, 50years ago) society.  If he thought it was  bad back then, he should see some of the crap that people publish on their blogs.  but i tell u this cause im better then the rest and can dont need silly confounds of apostrophes, asteriks and anecdotes.

So brush up on your language arts and social skills by reading the work of the great James Thurber. Check your local libraries.

The King is back at it

I don’t know why I hadn’t ocurred to me post about ‘Larry King Live’ , because I watch pretty much every night, I guess I just assumed everyone else did as well.  Who pimps harder than my man larry? no one. He knows his way around a divorce court, no prenup no problems.  So its no surprise after being married 8 times that the guy still has some creep in him.  Wait I don’t mean he’s creepy  (although I imagine most women would disagree), he just has some spunk left in him. The man is clearly too busy to get caught up going to night clubs or fucking waitresses or reality tv actresses, so of course he goes for the sister. We’ve all been there. I hope he’s on later or atleast has Jesse Ventura host.

A new chapter in the David Simon universe

well now ‘wire’ fans finally have something new to watch.  After hearing about this show initially I was weary of how well they could handle the angle on post-katrina n’orleans.  Wasn’t there some stupid cop show with anthony anderson in it about new orleans after the flood, I don’t think it did too well. Theres probably also been some other shows movies that have tackled the subject that I haven’t seen although I doubt they capture the reality of the situation like ‘Treme’.

‘Treme’ stars John Goodman going walter sobchak on everybodys ass, the woman who starred in Simon’s first project ‘The Corner’ ( if you have not seen this and watch the wire you are missing out) . Although I don’t know her name she plays Bunk Moreland’s (help me out on his real name) bitchy ex-wife , which she seems to be good at as she played an excellent bitch of an ex wife on ‘The Corner’.  Steve Zahn is also on the  show and shows some of his most compelling acting since ‘Blowin’ Smoke’ (again go see this if you have not). You also have Lester Freeman playing the role of some kind of jazz / witch doctor and everyone knows he’s way better than Morgan Freeman.  I hope for more of Simon’s character’s from past shows show up , but it seems like they are keeping to suit by getting authentic locals for most of the other parts.   I’m not sure where Ed Burns is or if he has anything to do with this show, but maybe his police experience wasn’t relevant to the subject matter, in any event hopefully he’ll atleast write an episode or two. The only thing missing (for me anyways ) was Jimmy Mcnulty who I would of liked to see play  a pirate or street urchin  or something, even if he was just as an extra.  I’ll still watch it though, I don’t think theres anything else on.

David Simon fans will get what they expected, and everyone else might get a wake up call to the reality of New Orleans. I always enjoy the music they pick for his shows  and this is no different, especially when Steve Zahn’s character leaves  Mystikal bumping on his stereo as he leaves his apartment (much to the shigrin of the neighbors). The impromptu live music is great as well as it exposes a form of american music that most people don’t get to hear. I being one of them, liked how they incorporated old blues songs into jazz parades.

There’s no way this show could fail , so go turn on your cable boxes, the first episode is up  on demand.

Del & Tame One – Parallel Uni-Verses

A few years ago del teaming up with tame one would seem like an out of left field tag team for just a song let alone a whole album. But lately, they seem to be on the same circuit of doing guest verses on whatever underground project that needs to step their rep up. You probably know del from Gorillaz, or hieroglyphics, and tame one’s days with the Artifact’s and Eastern Conference. In any event it s a hell of a duo , that I’d check out individually anyway.  For this album ‘Paralell Uni-verses’ they got the previously unknown Parallel Thought on the production who comes pretty correct with some funky dusty beats and scratch, and keeps a lot of background stuff going on.  These are some of the few guys left who can still rap, and this album really reminds you.  Some of the hooks I could do without, but they battle back and forth tryin to outdo eachother with verses.

Its kinda like allstar game of underground rap, the only thing theyd need would be sean price. But at at the same time, I’m not gonna lie these guys aren’t exactly at the height of their careers talent wise or successfully. Del’s flow is still ‘ sick and retarded’ pure eloquence and tame one be talkin’ greezy. It’s a far cry from some of their earlier output (‘Deltron’, ‘Wrong Side of da tracks’, Rawkus stuff etc.), and their raps aren’t as fast and non-stop as they was once were, they’re just a little burnt after 20 years on the road.  This is something Tame one embraces and uses to his advantage, his constant reference to drug use and sloppy souped up flow leads me to believe him.  Infact he probably outshines del in terms of lyricism, and the beats on the album sound more like something tame one would rap over. Too much of the album is cliché, they’re only like the 50th artist to do a ‘golden age’ of rap song, you know the type I’m talking about (for better versions check out Nas – where are they now, RA the rugged man – golden age, Kool Keith –takin it back).  I understand they were there and know they’re history, they are just a little late and come off weak on that attempt. All in all it’s refreshing to hear some of the all time great rappers from different coasts come together for an album that they clearly did for their own creative intent rather than to appease the masses.

Kool Keith + Always Sunny + HBO finally release the Dick Towel

What once was only a dream for a fictional character on the epic series ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is now becoming a reality thats sweeping the nation. just watch it , needs no explanation

or check it out here.

can I get fired?

I dont know if thats possible, I can try though.  Seeing as I am a well compensated, semi-professional blogger in an industry that lacks any type of common sense, taste or decency it’s good to see that people still care enough voice their displeasure with my opinions on topics they must so thoroughly be attached to.
I speaks the truth, I have no agenda, I don’t whore myself out to give good reviews to bullshit.  No plugs , no endorsements, I just tell it like I seen em.  For example, If I were to say a particular show , actor or movie was good then its a given that it is, no question.  If I said it I meant it, and its true, and if you don’t believe me just go back and watch it over and over again till you get it.  Now as far as negative criticism, for me its mad appreciated, its better than receiving positive feedback cause it means I hit a nerve. right now I am watching the wire for the third time or so and reading ‘hollywood’ by bukowski, I am listening to anything tomC3 or third sight have anything to do with ( i.e. project polaroid, simanese samurai, symbioniese liberation army, dr. dooom 2) also check out ugly mac beer and mr. modo w/ Jessica Fitoussi – Mo’donut ‘09.  So thats my entertainment, as for the rest of the masses Ill feed you some more of the bullshit you love from the popular media, sitcoms, the show where jerry seinfeld analyzes marriage, the bachelor, nancy grace, political circus entertainment (‘this channel is so left’ , ‘this channel is totally republican’), if thats what you guys believe then its my job to dismantle your brains from being washed over and over .

'your kind of an idiot man'

am I really? you wankers over in the UK obviously need

to go to your local dvd rental kiosk and inquire about moives starring Charles Bronson, then get back to me with your petty remarks over over who the ‘real’ Charles Bronson is. I am in no way discrediting the legitimacy of the inmate who goes by the same moniker.  From my reseearch I agree he’s the most badass guy in the prisons over there. And the movie was fine, but yall need to respect and bow to the master OG Charles Bronson, and who I could contest would hold up well in a fight with the modern day Bronson. Thats all , and look ‘Bronson’ is on demand, and just for you guys I’m not going to watch it, infact it looks like they’re showing ‘Death Hunt’ on TNT this weekend, which also stars Lee Marvin and features the fantaabulous acting of my main man Carl Weathers.

Ricky Gervais Show debuts on HBO

not much goin on here at work pretty slow day, last night however I was able to catch the debut of the new Ricky Gervais show entitled ‘The Ricky Gervais Show’. I didn’t realize this show was even in development until I saw it on the guide for the tele last evening, glad to see its on  HBO . Its the same format as the podcasts Gervais and Stephen Merchant have been doing for a while now, which I’ve heard were good. This show just takes that show and put s it to animation, which works out quite nice actually. It looks like (see above) those old cartoons that you can’t put your finger on, but like something that would open the ‘I Dream of Genie’ show or ‘Bewitched’.  The cartoons already being aesthetically pleasing portray the ‘actors’ well, maybe even better than real life.  Ricky Gervais’ laugh really annoys me when I see him do it in person, but the cartoon makes it come off way less obnoxious.  I’ve never seen this Karl Pilkington on anything before , but he’s really funny and hes good to the point where you can’t  tell if he’s being serious or sarcastic.  I was sad when it ended, it seemed to go by so quick. They just sit around and talk and it doesn’t seem planned and definitely not scripted, ingenious. They have a go at eachoter most of the show, and Karl Pilkington is kind of the fall guy.
Watch this and also the life and adventures of tim was on, that was pretty good too, seemed funnier than last season.  you’ll be having a laugh.

Mikes Epps : Underated and Never Faded & X-Rated

the title really sums up what you’re gonna get here. If your a mike epps fan,
I’m sure you’ve already seen his HBO special : Inappropriate Behavior from 2007.  That was an excellent special, but this one’s even better, he has a much larger audience and he does the show in Detroit purposely to attract an audience of all sorts of  ’Players” and ‘gangsters’ who still know how to get dis money even during a recession.  He uses a few of his classic jokes , but re -words them and does it in a way that takes the joke further and improves upon it. Another reason I think he did this was because most of the fan’s knew these jokes already and got a really big response. Like how everyone still calls him ‘day day’ (his character from ‘Next Friday’) and his ‘25,35,45,47,’ bit which I think is from goodtimes or something.  Well without spoiling too much, I highly advise  fans of comedy on any level to see this.  With this epic performance, Epps has finally reached Martin Lawerence and Eddie Murphy type proportions.  Sure alot of his jokes are geared towards the black community , but that should only defer the stupidest and most ignorant viewers because on a whole it demonstrates the entire struggle of the lower class. Especially with his emphasis on the recession.  The jokes are accessible to anyone with half a brain who has even the smallest fraction of street smarts and likes to laugh.  So why hold back? in the words of David Cross,’let america laugh’, and epps does that nonstop for an hour plus, you can’t really ask for much more .
